Hotel Tamboho has just opened its doors in Antananarivo back in February 2010. Due to its location ( in the so called Tana Water Front ) , it has quickly become a favourite destination for Antananarivo’s businessmen to have lunch in a nice environment.
The restaurant has a terrasse which gives you a view over a green wetland and we quickly tend to forget we are right behind one of Antananarivo’s most vibrant neighbourhood which host a ” Taxi – Brousse ” station and a market.
The menu changes every month and showcases typical local dishes with french and asian fair ( such as tempuras or steak with Dauphinois gratin )
Having chosen the Romazava which is Madagascar’s national dish ( alongside with the Ravitoto ) , I thought they better do it right.
To my surprise, it was well elaborated . The greens were not overcooked but the beef was a little bit firm to my taste. It was served with a portion of rice ( a “Vazaha” portion which means a small quantity ) , some tomato and peanut rougail .
Service was good although the waiters were a little bit distracted at times and we had to remind them a couple of times to get our coffee and our bill.
Speaking of bill, you have to budget around MGA 25, 000 for a meal ( main + drink + coffee ) . This explains why the crowd is mostly “vazaha” ( expats and tourists ).
Do we come back?
Once in a while and when budget permits, we will come back for lunch to enjoy the view and have a little break from Antananarivo’s traffic and pollution.
